BBC Drama: trailer

Video: BBC. Better than HBO.

Check out this extraordinary trailer of BBC dramas, with Benedict Cumberbatch referencing Shakespeare’s “All the world’s a stage” for ‘A Lifetime of BBC Drama.’

Admittedly it includes some titles that have already played out, rather than just upcoming shows, but the output their shows is extraordinary.

There’s Call the Midwife, Happy Valley, Doctor Who, Peaky Blinders, Luther, The Honourable Woman, The Fall, Burton & Taylor, Sherlock and an array of new shows.

– there’s even a shot of Russell Toovey at the Blue Mountains in Banished.

Better than HBO.

  1. I just watched this again…because I can *G*…
I reckon this young man could read the phone book and make it sound good….
My friend just purchased…and is watching…The Honourable Woman…she cant take her eyes off it.

  2. OMG…how did I miss this…I never took a lot of notice of Benedict….but liking him more and more as an actor…and after seeing interviews like on Graham Norton etc.
This is a really nice piece…Thank you David.

  3. I love this – it is quite majestic and celebrates their standard setting excellence

@ Pertinax – When you strive to do what they do of course every once in a while something will be less than amazing.

  4. The Fall, Happy Valley and The Honourable Woman (co-produced with Sundance) are all top notch.

Though given the BBC has a budget of nearly #5b their strike rate isn’t that high. HBO has a much better success rate. The BBC have just sold just under half of BBC America to AMC who will now run it.

  5. Love the shot of Russell in The Blue Mountains.
I notice there’s even a snippet of the lovely AidanTurner, resplendant in period costume, in Desperate Romantics – that’s going back a while…
