Big shows in the home stretch

We now have airdates for the last batch of big local titles from Seven, Nine and TEN for the ratings year.

2014-10-13_0125We now have airdates for the last batch of big local titles from Seven, Nine and TEN for the ratings year, as networks look to fill out the last 7 weeks of the ratings year.

Seven’s The Big Adventure will premiere at 6:30pm next Sunday, head to head with Nine’s new factual The Embassy.

Meanwhile TEN’s reality series Recipe to Riches will air Tuesday October 21 but is unlikely to end before the end of the ratings year (November 29th).

Last week TEN also premiered Party Tricks with Asher Keddie and Rodger Corser while Seven resumed Beauty and the Geek.

New and returning US shows are now also in play with Gotham, Madam Secretary, NCIS: New Orleans, The Blacklist, Homeland and The Big Bang Theory.  Seven is also expected to screen Resurrection, which returned to the US on September 28, while Nine previously indicated it would fasttrack Stalker, which began on October 1st in the US.

But there’s also some creative programming going on. Nine’s David Attenborough: Life has some excellent promos running given it is a 2009 series that has screened on the ABC (including in repeats in January this year). King’s Cross ER this Thursday has previously aired on Foxtel, as has TEN’s Territory Cops.

Now that Mental As… week has ended for ABC watch out for The Chaser’s Media Circus, Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery, Upper Middle Bogan, It’s a Date, Flying Miners and Happy Valley this week alone.

The pick of upcoming SBS titles is arguably the Free to Air premiere of Irish drama The Fall, which has also aired on Pay TV.

Plenty of choice -enjoy it while it lasts!

  1. Apparently the Big Adventure is a big stinker … From the makers of House Rules and the underwhelming Bringing sexy back.. How do these people keep their jobs??

  2. @ FKlein I realise it was a typing error. But wouldn’t it be great if we had a signing reality show (not singing)! Showcasing the ability of sign language and all their skills.

  3. Whoa there seems to be some hate towards the big adventure, why? Oh I forgot that in Australia we only like our reality TV to be about Cooking, building or signing…. anything else is a waste of time, is boring and will flop. I’m really looking forward to it. Treasure island back in the day was one of my favourite shows….hopefully TBA does well for Seven.

  4. As an X Factor fan i am not happy at Channel 7 and shifting our show for the Grand Final i might add to 8pm. Its a joke! The new show should start after X Factor then move to 6:30pm the following week. I got a feeling The Big Adventure will be The Biggest Flop on Seven in 2014!

  5. Why is there still a ratings and non-ratings period? Surely viewers, the networks, advertisers and the industry in general would benefit from it being a constant, year round affair?

  6. Considering there be 7 weeks left in the ratings period, I wouldn’t mind reading an article on any sort of ‘alternate’ programming might have over the non-ratings period.
