‘Fake EPA’ rep seeks belated Block apology

It was filmed months ago but now a man finally wants an apology from The Block.

2014-10-21_0025Environmental consultant Chris Hutton is seeking an apology from Nine following his being incorrectly labelled as an Environment Protection Authority representative on The Block.

He has told News Corp the incident was “a beat up.”

“They identified a potential concern, dealt with it, but it was built up for ratings.

“They even referred to it as a bomb they were sitting on.

“When I was giving them the results, I was trying to keep a straight face thinking ‘this is just ridiculous’.”

He claims his clients are telling him he is now “famous for all the wrong reasons.”

Nine this week indicated the mistake was a case of “misidentification” and an “editing error.”

However Hutton’s objections have emerged weeks after the scene was filmed (estimated to be August) and aired (mid September).

Why has it taken so long to object? And why hasn’t the EPA asked for an apology?

  1. I heard a EPA media spokesman commenting on this on the radio yesterday and the tenor of his response was that “Reality TV” wasn’t really reality and they weren’t fussed by the mis-representation.
