ASTRA has made some changes to its annual ASTRA Awards in the Pay TV sector.
It will ditch the Popular viewer-voted categories in favour of a push towards peer-voted excellence awards, with judging panels comprising eminent producers, presenters and executives, similar to the AACTAs, Emmys and Oscars (presumably actors will also get a guernsey).
New award categories include Most Outstanding Female Presenter and Male Presenter.
ASTRA CEO Andrew Maiden said the changes represented a “coming of age” for the STV industry.
“The huge quality and range of content on subscription television deserves to be judged by the most senior and experienced leaders from the creative industries,” he said.
“Broadening our judging panels to include the best creative minds in the country will help ensure the ASTRA Awards are known as the pre-eminent annual prizes for quality screen content.”
The location and date of the 2015 ASTRA Awards are yet to be announced.
