PVRs at the ready

With summer around the corner, a good PVR is suddenly your new best friend.

2014-10-28_2149With summer around the corner now is the perfect time to be storing up shows to get you through the dreaded non-ratings period (November 30).

But to do that a decent PVR is crucial and the Beyonwiz T3 is one of several PVRs that offer plenty of robust options.

At the heart of the T3 are the three HD TV tuners that allow viewers to record 8 shows at the same time, with a mammoth storage of 4TB.

The T3 menu offers plenty of personalisation so that you get the layout and EPG info you prefer, including all kind of detailed options to series link (or just new episodes not repeats), start early, finish later and more.

If you’re fighting over the remote control with your partner it’s also possible for them to watch one show on TV, while you are streaming to your PC -and recording other shows onto the hard drive.

If there is any downside, it’s probably that there are so many options it’s a little overwhelming just to get your head around the basics. That said, there is a simple set-up and support if you need it.

The Beyonwiz T3 4TB is an exciting development in the Australian TV Recorder market, featuring a Triple Tuner with the option to expand to a Quad Tuner. The T3 fully integrates with IceTV’s Smart Recording.

The T3 has three HD TV tuners allowing you to record 8 programs simultaneously across three TV networks, a 4TB internal hard drive, network streaming functionality, plug-in expansion, access to additional multimedia content via ipTV, and more. With an additional USB tuner, you can turn your T3 into a Quad Tuner and record 8 programs simultaneously across four different TV networks.

The T3 supports IceTV’s advanced TV Guide and Smart Recording features, as well as iPhone and Android streaming apps, allowing you to control and stream live TV content from your T3.

  1. When I read it, it sounded like an ad so I am ok with it. I would rather put up with a bit of this than a pay wall any day. A great blog and we all have to earn a crust somehow.

  2. I’m fine with the sponsored post and I’m sure that this excellent site isn’t cost-neutral. However, I also feel that a little “Sponsored post” in a light-weight font at the very bottom of the post amongst the other visual clutter doesn’t quite achieve “clearly noting” that this is basically an ad.

Moving “Sponsored post” to the first line of the article (while maintaining its current formatting) would better fit with the industry-leading ethical standards that this blog usually displays.

With regard to the number of programs that it can record simultaneously, I can’t recall ever wanting to watch/record more than 4 at the same time and that was some time ago.

These days I struggle to find 2 shows that I really want to watch. With the start times for dramas on commercial FTA networks being so unpredictable (and ABC has been getting worse), it’s simpler to stream what…

  3. It would not bother me if there was a sponsored ad every single day on this site. It’s an unbelievably good site, and it’s free, we should be thankful that we getting this service every single day even on holidays. People have to earn a living and the sponsored ad was completely relevant to the content of the site. Reading it I could tell it was not a standard article and I saw the sponsor comment at the bottom, no complaints from me. Keep up the good work David.

  4. David: to me, it’s obviously a sponsored post.

But, given that it’s presented as blog content – rather than in the sidebar – is it a product recommendation from the TV Tonight blog?

IOW, what difference does blog content make, compared to an ad?

  5. You mean many other ‘blogs’ or ‘sites’ have paywalls, the ‘media’ in this instance is the internet.

Prefer a Topfield, it’s superior technology, more functional firmware (and more often updated), implements DLNA better and doesn’t require third party subscriptions to services like Ice in order to facilitate a season pass feature.

  6. sorry david – i don’t think a tiny little “Sponsored post” disclaimer at the bottom of the post is “Clearly labelled” – clearly labelled is an obvious color change for example

  7. I have been trying to hoard shows in my PVR but the offerings in the past 8 weeks has been abysmal!
Yay for small mercies like SBS docos and lifestyle on 7two!

  8. I’ve got the Beyonwiz DPP2, got it in early 2010. I really wish they would release a new firmware for it and a basic overhaul of the interface. Its a very clunky design and was a very dated look even at the time, kinda like buying a PC now and having Windows 95 as your OS. Otherwise it works well, records 4 streams at once and EPG is prery good, sometimes a show name will disappear for no apparent reason, and the EPG on the TV itself is perfectly fine.
Just a shame there is nothing on FTA to record.
