Ken Sutcliffe receives Lifetime Achievement award in sports media

Nine, FOX Sports, TEN and ABC win at the Australian Sports Commission Media Awards.

2014-11-20_1740The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) Media Awards were announced last night.

Nine’s Ken Sutcliffe was awarded a Lifetime achievement award for contribution to sports journalism.

There were also wins for FOX Sports, ABC and TEN, the latter winning for their Big Bash League coverage.

TEN Head of Sport, David Barham, said: “Our commentary team is the best in the business and they share a great chemistry on screen. They offer fans a refreshing, sharp approach to cricket commentary, giving viewers a genuine insight and providing us all with entertainment.”

TV and related winners:
Lifetime achievement award for contribution to sports journalism: Ken Sutcliffe

Best profiling of an athlete, team or coach — broadcast media: Ryan Smith, Denise Reardon, Frank Chidiac, Maria Cardomatis and Lisa Shaunessy — Slammin’ Sam (FOX Sports/Beyond and South Sydney Media)

Best coverage of sport by an individual — television: Gerard Whateley (ABC and FOX Footy)

Best coverage of a sporting event by a media organisation: Big Bash Cricket — (Channel TEN)

Best contribution to sport through digital media: Network Sport — Taking the world game to every Australian (FOX Sports and News Corp)

Best promotion of women in sport: Matt Weiss, Denise Reardon, Kelli Underwood — Breaking Ground (FOX Sports)

Best depiction of the value of sport to Australians in a community setting: McGuire Media — The Recruit — Indigenous Carnival episode (Foxtel)

  1. The ‘Best promotion of women in sport’ category must have been pretty thin because i’m pretty sure only one episode of ‘Breaking Ground’ aired. Any chance you could find out what happened to the rest of the episodes David. Cheers.

  2. it was nice to see Ten actually win award for their coverage of BBL last summer. And it was their first ever broadcasting cricket on home soil in a long time. Congrats to all
