Petition calls on Seven to shut the Foo up

Seven is copping flak for the actions of X Factor judge after a song labels women ''bitches'' and ''sluts.''

2014-11-14_0041An online petition has attracted 15,000 signatures requesting Seven network dump US rapper RedFoo from The X Factor following his latest single, ‘Literally, I Can’t.’

The petition at Change.org states:

In the video, a group of sorority girls are harassed and verbally assaulted, simply because they don’t want to drink or engage in certain activities such as ”girl on girl”. The young women are depicted as killjoys and labelled ”bitches” and ”sluts” for refusing to conform to the wishes of the male party goers.

When the women repeatedly make clear that they don’t want to have sex or drink, they are surrounded by a group of rowdy men who shout in their faces: ‘Shut the fk up”.

Belatedly, RedFoo took to Facebook to apologise:

“Over the years, you’ve connected with me through my music, art and our personal interactions. My greatest joy and mission from day one has been to entertain people from all walks of life: the kids, parents, teens, ladies, gentlemen, cops and even the robbers.

“I get excited to create things that will unite all of us through laughter, dance and celebration. If during that process I offend anyone, I apologize from the bottom of my heart. In the future I will be more mindful of the way I present my art.”

With X Factor judge announcements some time away, Seven is unlikely to react.

It also did not budge in 2011 when Kyle Sandilands was in hot water for comments about a female journalist in the same period he was a judge on Australia’s Got Talent.

  1. I think 7 should sack Redfoo, Ronan and Natalie. Redfoo is just way too cocky and overexcited. Ronan and Nat have been on for way too long now and its time for them both to move on. The host Luke Jacobz and Dannii should stay. Dannii is professional on this show. My idea for the X-Factor judging panel for 2015

    -Dannii Minogue

  2. X Factor is due a judging panel shake up after this years ratings slump. Given he’s by far the least credible judge, you would have thought he was in the firing line already.

  3. A month ago I was saying ditch Redfoo, he’s just getting boring. But now that he has proven he can stir up controversy, get people stirred up online, and get petitions made for his sacking his value has really increased and he maybe should be back.

It’s like the experts on Reality Check say. As soon as the masses are repulsed and say they are never watching ever again, it’s usually a sign that you’ve kicked a goal and ratings are about to shoot up.

  4. Why now? Where were these people previously. It’s not as if this is new to RedFoo’s repertoire. As a music reviewer, I’ve had the displeasure of having to listen to his entire discography & I marked LMFAO’s albums down due to the misogyny apparent in the lyrics. I can quote at least 10 songs (no exaggeration) that have arguably offensive lyrics. Instead, I’ll just point you to (from memory) the worst: azlyrics.com/lyrics/lmfao/shots.html

  5. Misogyny and chauvinism is a part of American culture and foreign culture. It’s generally not socially acceptable in Australia. We don’t need foreign gender gap influences in Australian media.
