A few weeks ago it was confirmed that Top of the Lake would, somewhat surprisingly, be getting a second season.
But not much detail was revealed on its renewal.
This week the BBC tells us the series will move from New Zealand to Sydney.
An original 6 x 60′ series written by Jane Campion for BBC Two.
Award winning drama Top of the Lake, from Academy-award winning director Jane Campion (The Piano, Portrait of a Lady, Bright Star) will return for a second series. Written by Jane Campion and Gerard Lee, the story will be set in Sydney, Australia.
The first season will also air on ABC next year.

The second season is to be called “Bottom of the Harbour”.
Well, if they want to be literal about the title, they could set it around a lake near Sydney. However, I don’t think the lake itself was the important thing – it was about what it represented. Like others, I like the idea of Campion showing the non-glossy, non-touristy side of Sydney.
Interesting. Top of The Harbour?
How can it be called Top of the Lake if it’s set in Sydney?.The lake was a very specific reference to where the story was set in New Zealand in the first series, but it has no relevance in a Sydney setting.
Top Of Kippax Lake?
For sure.
Hopefully Campion chooses to feature all those hidden, obscure corners of Sydney that we rarely get to see on camera.,
Hope we see something besides opera house and bondi.
Angela – I agree and I really hope Campion is able to draw out Sydney’s character in the same way.
Fantastic !
Can’t wait.
Although the brooding NZ scenery really made Season 1.
