HBO greenlights rock & roll drama from Scorsese, Jagger & Winter

Creator and director of Boardwalk Empire team with Mick Jagger for a new drama set in 1970s New York.

2014-12-03_1246HBO has picked up an untitled rock & roll drama pilot backed by Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winter.

Winter, who created Boardwalk Empire, is also creator of the new drama set in 1970s New York, exploring the drug & sex-fuelled music business as punk and disco were breaking out.

Bobby Cannavale plays a record executive trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound.

Winter will serve as the showrunner with George Mastras (Boardwalk Empire) also credited as writer. It has been in the works at HBO since 2010.

Martin Scorsese directed the pilot, just as he did for Boardwalk Empire.

Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano and Juno Temple co-star, and the cast includes Andrew Dice Clay, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, James Jagger, Jack Quaid, Birgitte Sorenson, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Bo Dietl, Robert Funaro and Joe Caniano.

  1. The pedigree is amazing and I think this could be a really interesting premise. I usually avoid Ray Romano in anything, but ill make an exception this time and give this a go.
