Airdate: Room 101

Paul McDermott's new chat show will air Monday nights on SBS with a mix of famed Aussie guests.

room101SBS will premiere Paul McDermott’s news chat show Room 101 in late February.

The format has had 13 seasons in the UK and is still on air today on BBC One.

Produced by Matchbox Pictures and filmed in front of a studio audience, the series sees McDermott uncovering new facets of their personalities from a mix of familiar Australian faces including Ray Martin, Julia Zemiro, HG Nelson, Julia Morris, Matt Preston, Noni Hazlehurst, Dave Hughes, Vince Colosimo, Poh Ling Yeow and Nazeem Hussain.

Ray Martin hates small dogs; HG Nelson has issues with awarding anyone 4th place; Julia Morris does not like other people’s children; small plastic toys genuinely cause Dave Hughes great pain; Noni Hazlehurst is not a fan of the comb-over and Matt Preston has a real aversion to muffins.

Accomplished writer, performer, and television presenter Paul McDermott understands that sometimes the big picture is overrated and sweating over the small stuff cannot be helped. Each week in this new ten-part series, a well-known celebrity chooses five pet hates – things that really wind them up in everyday life – in the hope that Paul will banish them into the Room 101 vault forever, never to trouble them again.

But for these celebrities to banish their pet peeves for all eternity into the Room 101 vault named after the place in George Orwell’s landmark novel 1984, they must first make a strong enough case for their expulsion to convince Paul.

As the shine of a new year fades, it’s the little things that start to wear everyone down. Bad road manners, sick people who still go in for the kiss on the cheek, mirrors in gyms that reflect failed fitness attempts, the injustice of paper cuts, un-openable packaging – Room 101 is a chance to get rid of these niggling irritations of everyday life for good.

Monday February 23 at 9:30pm on SBS ONE.

  1. This UK format, produced by an American company has been commissioned at the expense of the locally created and produced national treasure – RocKwiz. It’s decisions like this that have cast SBS adrift. I certainly do not want to know anything else about these over-exposed celebs.

  2. I’d much prefer to hear about 5 things i didnt know about the celebs personal life than 5 trivial things that does t really reveal anything about them
