Rumour: Rove to return to late night TV?

Could Rove be about to return to hosting variety in a late-night spot on TEN?

It’s the latest rumour doing the rounds, today published by News Corp.

Of course for much of Rove‘s success on TEN his show was not really late nights but an 8:30 primetime vehicle, which attracts revenue that helps pay for a sizeable Live show budget. Maybe TEN has found a way to cut costs (no advertorials please).

But a TEN spokesman denied the rumours, along with the man himself, attending the AACTA Awards.

“Really, where did you hear that?” he asked the newspaper.

TEN recently indicated it would air James Cordon’s late night US show but not Steven Colbert’s.

McManus last guest-hosted The Project for TEN in December.

  1. @Maev….Sydney – Probably the rest of the world who has a varied range of TV entertainment program have variety/tonight shows too. Though I’m only familiar with the a few from the US as you mentioned and the UK. Although I have seen various clips over the years from non english speaking countries of their shows, but the names of them escape me.

So yeah.. I didn’t understand why Secret Squirrel just wants us to have The Project and morning tv either.

  2. @ Secret Squirrel …not sure I understand your ‘moving on’ reasoning…other countries has night time variety/chat type shows..US for instance…???

  3. Firstly – as a country I think it’s time to say, please no more Rove. Secondly – apologies for pedantry, but it’s Stephen Colbert. Thank you. As you were.

  4. Yeh nah Rove’s had his time, I don’t know if it’s just me but I really don’t get his humour..I’m sure he’s a nice guy maybe he should do a radio show. But a new style comedy variety show could work!

  5. @Woody @HeyHey_Variety – no we don’t, that’s what you would like. The rest of us have moved on.

I don’t like dashing people’s hopes but it’s kinder if you understand now that the TV landscape is vastly different from the noughties and it just isn’t going to happen.
