Studio 10 backs #morelogiewomen campaign

Debate is gathering on ways to address a Hall of Fame gender imbalance of 27 men and 1 woman.

Studio 10 this morning debated TV Tonight’s question on revamping the Logie Awards Hall of Fame process to address the imbalance of 27 men and 1 woman currently inducted.

Ita Buttrose, Jessica Rowe, Sarah Harris and Joe Hildebrande discussed the many names of Australian women who would make worthy contenders.

The social media campaign #morelogiewomen began this morning on ABC’s Radio National Breakfast after TV Tonight floated the idea of 1 man, 1 woman and 1 show to be inducted each year.

It has since gained traction through Twitter and via BuzzFeed.

You can tweet your support for change with the hashtag #morelogiewomen and the name of the person you would like to see inducted.

  1. Surely it devalues it if you open it up to three entrants a year, and actually more than anything surely puts a huge question mark over the individuals inducted – are they being inducted because they deserve to be or because there is a quota to fill.

  2. I am not entirely convinced. I do not believe that every year there will be someone deserving (and I definitely do not believe that there will be shows deserving) of this award. I wholeheartedly agree that more woman should and deserve to be conducted into the hall of fame, but I disagree with quotas (for want of a better word).

For example, what about a year when two women are deserving of the honour, but no men?
