Studio 10 entertainment reporter Craig Bennett talks to Katie Little, daughter of television legend Jeanne Little, who discusses her mother’s ailing health.

Having first been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2009, Jeanne is completely bedridden and sadly has also lost her power of speech.

“It’s no wonder every housewife around Australia was turning the television on and going ‘what is she doing this week’, because she made life fun,” she says.

“It does break my heart, it really does, I mean, you know you can’t choose your fate, and this is a very hard thing to go through, watching my mother not be able to care for herself. She’s not the same person that she was but she’s still my mother, it’s difficult.”

Jeanne Little first came on to our screens as a guest on The Mike Walsh Show in 1974, showcasing designer maternity clothing. Her larger-than-life character made her an instant hit with audiences and she went on to become an Australian television fixture for the next 30 years, taking out two Silver Logies and the Gold Logie in 1976. Her television credits include appearances on The Mike Walsh Show, Midday with Ray Martin and the panel chat show, Beauty and the Beast.

8:30am Monday on TEN.

  1. Jeanne Little was once the funniest woman on Aussie TV, and as yet there has been no equal, Alzheimers is an unforgiving blight on human beings and most of us have been touched by it with a family member succumbing to its ravages. Go well JL we feel for you and your family
