After three years with TEN the AACTA Awards are moving to Seven.

The event also has locked in a date, Wednesday December 9th at The Star, a major shift away from previous events held in late January and a return to timing that was previously popular with the AFI Awards.

AACTAs will also have a “new format” no longer produced by the AACTAs organisation.

An industry luncheon will still be presented in Los Angeles in January.

AFI | AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella said, “With a new show format and new audiences on Channel Seven, we hope to raise the bar for the AACTA Awards telecast, and further spotlight our nation’s best film and television performers, productions and practitioners.

“Channel Seven has consistently earned AACTA Award nominations across drama and reality television
in recent years, including for its reality juggernaut My Kitchen Rules, Australia’s highest rating show.

“AACTA Award winning productions for Seven include Packed to the Rafters and The Amazing Race, and we again look forward to healthy competition from Seven and all networks for the 5th AACTA Awards.

Brad Lyons, Director of Production, Channel Seven said, “Channel Seven is thrilled to be forming this partnership with the AACTA Awards.

“We share the same ambitions and commitment to excellence on the screen, regardless of the size of that screen. The annual Awards presentation is a highlight for our industry and we are looking forward tobeginning the planning and pre-production with AACTA.”

The movie is also interesting given that this year Seven did not win any Television awards although The Water Diviner, in which it was a backer, tied for Best Film. The Russell Crowe film airs on Seven next Monday night.

  1. Better to put the AACTA Awards to December rather than January during the non-ratings period. That way, it will increase the viewership. But 7 will push ratings higher.

  2. “……and by way of this new partnership, Seven is ensuring it will win more awards in the future……….”
What the industry needs in this country is a system of awards that are clean, fair and determined by experts in the various categories.
“……and the winner of the reality award is ‘And Pigs Might Fly’, Seven Network.

  3. I hope that Channel Seven does a good job of the awards. The AACTA’s on Ten were heavily, and badly, edited and I hope that the “new format” will be better than these awards.

Good to see the awards back in December.
