BAFTA TV Awards 2015: Nominees

Happy Valley, Peaky Blinders and The Missing all in the running for Britain's top TV Drama prize.

Nominations have been announced in the 2015 BAFTA TV Awards with The Missing, Line of Duty, Happy Valley and Marvellous lead the nominations with three each.

Amongst the nominees are Benedict Cumberbatch, James Nesbitt, Sheridan Smith, Sarah Lancashire, James Norton, Brendan O’Carroll and Graham Norton.

Happy Valley, Line of Duty, The Missing and Peaky Blinders are all nominated for best drama series.

But there are some conspicuous absentees: The Honourable Woman‘s Maggie Gyllenhaal is a serious omission (just give it to Sarah Lancashire now). The Fall‘s Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan both missed out, along with Doctor Who‘s Peter Capaldi while the shows were overlooked entirely. Nothing for Martin Freeman either, with Fargo absent from the International category -huh?

Broadchurch is outside the eligibility this time around, airing in the UK in early January. Adam Hills also misses out.

The awards ceremony takes place on May 10th, hosted by Graham Norton.

  1. Hi David, Do you know if Foxtel is broadcasting the Graham Norton hosted BAFTA TV Awards ceremony. Can’t see it in the EPG on either UKTV or BBC First but do you know more? Tks

      1. How true. Thanks for following it up, David. Happy Valley or The Missing as best drama for me although disappointed with the latter’s ending.

  2. Give Happy Valley best drama, best comedy and Lancashire best leading actress and actress in a comedy (her anecdotes were hilarious). Norton gave two very different good performances in Happy Valley and Grantchester.

Why would a minor US cable show like Fargo, and Freeman’s terribly annoying attempt at a Minnesotan accent, get nominated for the BAFTA? Especially since the TV awards mostly consist of the industry handing out awards to their mates who make shows for the BBC.

  3. Keeley, Sarah or Sheridan deserve it for Lead Actress. All great in their roles, although I’m hoping Sarah takes it.
Surprised that Hollyoaks has been given the nod over Emmerdale in the soaps category, although I think EastEnders will take it simply for the amazing performances tied up the Lucy’s murder and Linda’s rape. Both gripping and well told stories.

  4. Sorry Call the Midwife didn’t get any nominations. Very surprised in fact. Yes, Sarah Lancashire is a gem. Last Tango in Halifax is also worth watching if you enjoy her acting. The Wrong Mans DVD is the first time DVD authoring has really come home to me. Brilliantly done and presented. This is a really good mini-series by the way.
