“Adork-able” US sitcom New Girl has been renewed for a fifth season.

“Four seasons in, New Girl continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television,” David Madden, President, Entertainment, FOX Broadcasting Company said.

“The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn’t be more proud of Liz, Brett, Dave and the entire New Girl team. We absolutely love this show and we’re so excited to bring it back for Season Five.”

The series will reach its 100th episode, the magic number for syndication.

Season 3 premiered in Australia on ELEVEN last May

  1. This wasn’t a well kept secret. Production was continuing so they can fit shooting S4 around Deschanel’s maternity leave which made the Hollywood gossip circuit this week.

    Tired, formulaic, annoying and not worth watching since they ran out of interesting things to do with Schmidt would be another view point. It rated 1.0 (18-49) / 2.32m up against little competition this week. But Fox was always going to take to 100 eps, though that only requires ordering an extra 5 episodes (three are 3 eps of the S4 order are unscheduled) . So interesting to see how many they make and when they screen them next year.

    There was also a lawsuit that alleged that Meriwether’s New Girl is based on Square One. A sitcom about a 30 something girl who, after a break-up, moves in with single guys, which was in development with Deschanel proposed in 2006. Fox managed to get it thrown out on the…
