Midsomer Murders returns for its 17th season with four new episodes.

These episodes aired in the UK in January and February.

“The Dagger Club”
DCI Barnaby and DS Nelson investigate when artist Suzie Colebrook is electrocuted by a booby-trapped roulette wheel she received in the post after a manuscript is stolen from her house.

She was the executor of crime writer George Summersbee’s estate, and her murder comes as his newly discovered book is about to be unveiled. Her publisher husband Niall seems more concerned about the stolen manuscript than her murder.

There is tension between George’s daughter Bella, the sole beneficiary of his estate, and her mother Jeanie. In another complication Bella’s partner Rob is having money troubles. Meanwhile, Maggie Markham is busy promoting her husband Nick Summersbee’s memoirs about his famous brother.

Nelson discovers the electrocution mirrors a plotline in George’s first novel ‘The Wheels of Justice’, except it describes two roulette wheels being sent.

And there are others who would love to get their hands on the manuscript: obsessive fan Curtis Braylesford, and big time publisher Miles Rattigan. Plus, Maggie claims Jeanie hated Suzie over an affair she had with George.

A second deadly wheel is traced to Cecilie Peterson 30 miles away, but the police arrive too late. Barnaby spots Suzie’s original artwork for ‘The Wheels of Justice’ on the wall. And phone records reveal both victims knew Bella.

Forensics prove Suzie’s break-in was staged, and Bella reveals Suzie wanted Miles to publish the book rather than Niall, giving the dead woman’s husband motive to steal it and kill her. But then Niall is murdered…

8:30pm Friday on ABC.

  1. Have to be careful near our place, the birdcalls on Midsomer (Murders) the “murder capital of the world” sound the same, what with dive-bombing magpies and pluvvers we don’t need them telling us there’s a murderer close by
