Sweden favourite to win Eurovision. Australia in 4th?

The bookies have been accurate in recent years -let's hope they are wrong this time.

Sweden’s MÃ¥ns Zelmerlöw will win Eurovision 2015 and Australia’s Guy Sebastian would have to settle for fourth, if the bookmakers are anything to go by.

The Swedish song Heroes is dynamically staged, employing all kinds of high-tech wizardry which, if employed on stage in Vienna, will make it a hot contender.

The bookies tip Italy and Estonia to take second and third. While they haven’t always been correct, the bookmakers have had a pretty good track record over the last decade.

Australia taking fourth, or somewhere in its vicinity, would be an outstanding result for our first ever appearance -even if many adopt an “all or nothing” approach.

Guy Sebastian’s song Tonight Again has automatically qualified for the Final, as a guest participant.

The United Kingdom entry Electro Velvet ranks #10 according to the bookies’ tips.

We will know by late May.

  1. Australia has no chance. Guy’s a fantastic talent but the Eurovision voters tend to be very euro-centric.

Sweden the favourite? It is well known that the singer has made homophobic statements in the past. When the voters in other countries get wind of that that should kill his chances.

Greece – well it is a huge pop ballad – just like last years winner – but Greece recently voted in a leftwing government and the voters tend to reward countries with leftwing socialist liberal (small l ) governments. Have a look at the UK’s record under rightwing conservative governments in the past – Blair, Brown and now Cameron.

And the bookies have ignored the novelty acts. Finland have entered a 2 minute heavy metal punk song performed by a bunch of elderly gents with disabilities.

Didn’t Russia do well with their grannies a few years ago.

    I won’t predict the winner just yet. I am…

  2. Agree with Sweden nr.1 – Great song.
Italy would have been in the top 5 twenty years ago, I love it (but I am 65 – lol).
France with ‘N’Oubliez Pas’ will score high too (I hope) and Ireland.
The Greek song sounds a bit like last years winner ‘Rise like a Phoenix’ – but not half as powerful.
Australia in the top 5. Why? Novelty factor?

  3. Find that very funny. That Sweden are favourites and Australia 4th. 1974. A little band called ABBA won however an Olivia Newton John came 4th for UK

  4. Not a fan of Sweden’s song; have high hopes for Estonia — the sort of song you’d find on triple j and just like the catchiness of Netherlands.
Also sceptical of Italy. Opera and Euro don’t generally go together. France did opera in 2011 and were bookies favourite, yet ended up 15th.
Hope Australia get Top 5; big question is does Europe embrace us or reject us competing.
