Eurovision 2015: United Kingdom

How a country, with its rich pop history, keeps sending such ordinary songs to Eurovision?

I don’t understand how a country like United Kingdom, with its rich pop history, keeps sending such ordinary songs to Eurovision.

There is something about the BBC choices that seems to be completely out of touch with cutting-edge pop. In the past, Englebert Humperdink, Bonnie Tyler (ok it had a little camp value) and Andrew Lloyd Webber on accompaniment.

This year it’s electro-swing.

Alex Larke from Hertfordshire shares his time between teaching in a primary school and performing as Mick Jagger in one of the biggest Rolling Stones tribute acts in the world called ‘The Rolling Clones’ touring the UK and internationally.

Bianca Nicholas from Kent has performed for Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. Bianca’s debut single Hold On To Your Dreams was a top 100 single and number 1 on the iTunes Vocal Chart. She also appeared on The Voice UK and her blind audition has now amassed over 250,000 views on YouTube.

  1. I haven’t changed my opinion about this since I first heard it back in March. It’s awful. Way to twee. Still needs less electro-funk and more cowbell. Would be nice if they were both decent singers too.

Michael Young commented on your article about this in March and said that he’s convinced that the UK deliberately sabotages its chances each year so they do not have to host this mega-expensive production. I think he may be on to something…
