Anybody offered it to The Stig yet…?

Top Gear could be set to have different presenters each week after the exit of Jeremy Clarkson -but there are hopes to convince James May and Richard Hammond to return.

BBC is reportedly ready to follow the model used on news quiz show Have I Got News For You? with rotating presenters, but has reportedly offered the duo a combined package of A$9m for up to three series.

A source told The Independent, “Despite their pronouncements of loyalty to Clarkson, Hammond and May have taken the trouble not to resign in protest at his sacking … [and] have each been offered £1 million a year to keep the Top Gear flame of inspired puerility alive.”

May has previously indicated whilst he doesn’t see himself remaining on the show without Clarkson, it does not necessarily mean he is leaving the BBC.

Top Gear remains one of BBC’s must lucrative properties.

  1. The BBC really screwed this up!

Yes I know Clarkson has admitted fault and rightfully so for his actions but I think the whole sacking should have been handled better. There first mistake was giving him a ‘final’ warning which tied their hands.

I don’t want to watch a show were each week we have different presenters driving the cars, doing challenges and stories for the show, it’s what killed the local version given how many presenters they went through over it’s short run on SBS then Nine.

They could pay someone else to intro the already filmed missing segments from the last series but that is all.

The BBC has lost it’s biggest cash cow and is now grasping at straws.

    1. Yes the reality of their own stupidity is finally hitting home at the BBC. A lot of the so called earlier controversies were pre recorded and the producers had a choice the include/exclude. The eeny meeny mo incident was both very bad and a very convenient leak. I would like to hear what Oisin Tymon thinks about the current situation, to his great credit there appears to have been zero attempt by him to cash in on his experience

  2. It may be noted that both James May and Richard Hammond have the charisma to produce their own shows, the BBC will have to offer a better incentive for the pair to host their former cash cow. Clarkson’s indifferent adversarial commentary as far as non prestige super cars (and people) was concerned was obviously encouraged by the shows producers, he was indeed the spoilt brat of British TV and had justice served only because of his volatile temperament, but I suspect that Top Gear will lose ratings without him. The show ‘Fifth Gear’ provides the same viewing without the insults.
