The Voice drew its biggest audience so far this season with a whopping 1.82m viewers last night. One of the biggest Reality audiences of the year watched a carefully-edited episode that maximised drama between coaches Delta Goodrem and Jessie J. Bring on the Live shows so we can see it play out in real time.

Full credit to Nine however for its result, nearly double the opposition as they both steam towards their finales.

Seven made up lost ground later in the night thanks to the men’s Wimbledon final, which narrowed the gap in evening share. As a result TEN’s Sunday slipped in the crossfire.

Nine network won with a 30.8% share then Seven 28.6%, TEN 18.5%, ABC 16.3% and SBS 5.8%.

Following The Voice for Nine were Nine News (1.49m) which was its best bulletin all year outside of one accompanying the Cricket World Cup Final. 60 Minutes (1.1m) and A.D.: Kingdom and Empire (421,000) followed.

Seven News (1.37m) was best for Seven then House Rules (905,000), Sunday Night (678,000) and Wimbledon (668,000 / 582,000).

MasterChef Australia (993,000) led for TEN. Modern Family was 547,000 / 391,000, CSI Cyber 487,000 and NCIS (268,000).

Both Inspector George Gently and Grand Designs drew 840,000 for ABC. ABC News was 818,000 and Compass was 298,000.

On SBS it was Michael Scott: The Story of Luxury (222,000), Neil Armstrong: The Enigma Explained (221,000), Man on Mars: Mission to the Red Planet (192,000) and SBS World News (180,000).

ABC2’s The Hive topped multichannels with 251,000 viewers.

    1. I agree, andrew, and adding to David’s hint at creative editing, i now see why they have encouraged the coaches (certainly Jessie) to wear the same clobber right through the blinds. I was going to be very superficial and a tad bitchy and suggest Jessie J wear something else; especially as it does not, imho, flatter her. It’s all making sense to me now….

  1. I used to love ‘The Voice’ before it became like every other ‘Manipulated – we need conflict to attract viewers – Reality Show’. Please point me in the direction of one show on TV right now that still concentrates on the contestants, without having to create conflict. Is this really what the Australian viewing public wants? I thought we had enough conflict in our daily lives and would enjoy watching some entertainment for relaxation.

  2. The new judges, Benji and Jessie j, seem to be a bit loose on the rules, often getting up of their chair and confering with each other or in Jessies case going and sitting in front of the performer on stage. Benji even got off his chair when it wasn’t even turned last night. Someone should advise the newbies on proper Voice etiquette.

      1. The Maddens have been somewhat diluted by having them both there. I don’t see the value of it at all. With 3 other strong personalities on that set, Benji is distracting and reducing Joel’s impact.

  3. I saw the “feud” and while it might’ve been a stunt, it left me unimpressed. Either it makes Delta look like a complete diva (I for one have always thought she was a bit hard done by by the press – but perhaps they were right?) or the show’s credibility if they’re encouraging these types of antics.

    1. I think Delta came off looking poorer for the interaction. She had a rationale for it, but the initial removing her mic seemed to be because she didn’t get the last word. It looked like a diva stamping her tiny foot. Then they were lovey lovey after that!

        1. Ha, i bow to your intuition and expertise there, David. It didn’t occur to me. I must be getting soft in my middle age. Who’d have thunk i could be fooled after 20 years in television?

  4. Saw about the first 30 minutes of the voice (not by choice) and totally agree that it was carefully edited and manufactured. It was a reminder that choose not to watch a singing contest that’s all about the judges. Unfortunately with those ratings I think viewers are just going to be bombarded with more reality especially on nine.

7tennis streaming had been a good option for Wimbledon coverage. Has worked pretty well when used despite the occasional buffering issue and hopefully this will be a regular part of 7s Wimbledon coverage. A windows phone app would be a handy addition.
