A clause in Jeremy Clarkson’s Top Gear contract with the BBC will reportedly prevent him from making a motoring show for ITV before April 2017.

But while the clause rules out another immediate British broadcaster, it puts US streaming giant Netflix into a prime position.

A source told The Mirror: “Basically they could make a show for ITV, but not one about cars. A clause stops them leaving and making a rival.

“It means Netflix or Amazon are favourites to sign up the team…They hope to make up their minds soon. ITV has made them a great offer.”

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May are thought to have been in talks with ITV after they were seen leaving channel boss Peter Fincham’s house last month.

ITV and the BBC have declined to comment on the speculation.

  1. I knew there would be some clause in his contract, do wonder if May or Hammond also have something in there contracts or if this was a clause in the event Clarkson does something wrong leading to him being fired (or not renewed)?

My bet is the guys will go state side for a year and do specials for Netflix, just hope we get them here asap without having to shell out for Netflix.
