Ben Mendelsohn is up for an Emmy Award in nominations for the 67th awards announced earlier today.

He has been nominated in the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role on the Netflix series, Bloodline. But he will have to fend off such names as Peter Dinklage and Alan Cumming if he is to win.

In the expanded Drama Series category are Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards, Mad Men and Orange Is The New Black. This year Emmys has ruled comedies must be 30 minutes, effectively barring Orange is the New Black from making a run under the Comedy category.

Running for Comedy are Louie, Modern Family, Parks & Recreation, Silicon Valley, Transparent, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Veep.

Game of Thrones dominated the nominations with 24 nods (including in the Creative Emmys), followed by American Horror Story: Freak Show on 20, Olive Kitteridge on 13 and Bessie on 12.

  1. Why does Sons of Anarchy continue to be snubbed by the Emmy’s? The entire final season was phenomenal, and surely deserved at least a nomination either for Charlie Hunnam or Katy Sagal in acting, or either Kurt Sutter or Paris Barclay for directing? Very disappointed that this great show has very rarely been acknowledged in this way.

  2. Seven well deserved Emmy nominations for Better Call Saul, I went in watching it with trepidation and was completely blown away with how good it was. As has been said Jonathan Banks was brilliant in his role as Mike and will be hard to beat, he sold that character so well that in one scene I said out loud with a snigger: You’re calling out the wrong person.

  3. Great news for Ben! An overnight success after nearly 30 years! Interesting list, lots of categories with 7 nominees; supp actress comedy with 8. Still some clinging to repeat nominees, but some change evident with the choices. I’m going to have to diversify my viewing habits to check out some of the newer and cable located programs. Jeffrey Tambor would be my only certainty for a win.
