US period drama Masters of Sex has been renewed for a fourth season.

The series, featuring Michael Sheen and Lizzie Caplan, will return for 12 more episodes. It was renewed by Showtime along with Ray Donovan.

“Both Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex are signature series for Showtime,” said Showtime president David Nevins. “They are emblematic of what Showtime stands for — quality, premium programming that you cannot find anywhere else on television. We’re so proud to continue offering both series across all our platforms.”

Season Three of Masters of Sex is currently screening in Australia on SBS.

Meanwhile action-drama The Last Ship, starring Eric Dane, has also been renewed by TNT.

Based on William Brinkley’s novel and produced by Michael Bay, the series will return for a third season of 13 episodes.

It airs in Australia on GO!

  1. I’m a bit surprised actually that Master of Sex was renewed. I was thinking last week when watching the return that they seemed to have limited material left to explore. Don’t get me wrong – I love the show but I thought it was nearing the end.

  2. I lost interest in Masters of Sex after the first season, this show probably would have been better served as a limited season release. Pleased sexy SBS got it though. The Last Ship had some promise but is now taking inane plot detours into the action hero genre to justify using the US Navies hardware, the late timeslot will eventually kill viewer enthusiasm leaving fans high and dry if past commercial practices apply. Ray Donovan is the best pick here, the show hasn’t missed a beat and the script is top notch.

  3. Hmm. The 3rd series of Masters needs to start kicking some goals in that case. It’s tenuous grip on fact has all but been lost in the first two episodes. The writers have now invented non-existent children, and are obliged to air disclaimers at the end of the episode. It’s soap opera of the highest quality.

  4. Still watching the last ship. Its now on Go at a ridiculous post 11pm timeslot. Whilst season 2 is still airing, not holding my breath that will ever get to see season 3.
