Emmys omits tributes for Christopher Lee, Yvonne Craig.

Who was left off this year's In Memoriam tribute at the Emmy Awards?

It happens every year…… when award shows forget to pay tribute to some of the names in their In Memoriam segments.

Whilst clearly they can’t take time to acknowledge every unit runner and gaffer, it’s nevertheless fair to ask about some profile talent.

Yesterday’s Emmys did not include Christopher Lee. Lee is well-known for his feature films, but there was nevertheless small screen work too: How the West Was Won, The Pirate, Saturday Night Live, The Tomorrow People, Street Gear, Ivanhoe, The New Adventures of Robin Hood, Around the World in 80 Days, Shaka Zulu, Space: 1999, The Avengers, Pope John Paul II, Les redoutables, Gormenghast, Soul Music and The Odyssey.

Another omission was Yvonne Craig, TV’s original Batgirl, who died in August. She went on to guest-star in an episode of Star Trek as well as other shows, including The Six Million Dollar Man and The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Other snubs, included Good Time and Laugh-In actor Alton (Ben) Powers and composer Jack Horner, Carol Ann Susi who voiced Howard’s mother on The Big Bang Theory, wrestler “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Lee Whitney (Star Trek), Melody Patterson (F-Troop), Ken Weatherwax (The Addams Family), Don Harron (Hee Haw), Suzanne Crough (Partridge Family), Marcia Strassman (Welcome Back, Kotter), Roger Rees (Cheers), and Sawyer Sweeten (Everybody Loves Raymond).

Meanwhile at 11.9m US viewers the ceremony was the least-watched in US history, and Australia’s (daytime) broadcast was not high enough to make the Top 20 STV shows for Monday.

  1. It is quite astounding that those people were omitted, there are some major stars there that most people growing up in the 60’s/70’s & earlier would remember watching. Maybe the person researching that segment was really young & it didn’t occur to them to include those people because they had never heard of them.
Or maybe there are more complex reasons. Its interesting that 3 of them were child stars one of which committed suicide & the other 2 dying quite young. Its a bit of a touchy subject in the industry of late, especially with revelations from stars like Corey Feldman etc. Maybe they didn’t want to remind people of the struggles of child actors because they seem to want to sweep it under the carpet so to speak.

  2. Yes, seems there were alot of familiar tv faces missed. I didn’t watch the Emmys in full, but i happened to see the memorial and there were more on there that I didn’t know, the one’s I did.

  3. I’m just gutted to read that one of the Sweeten twins from Everybody Loves Raymond took his own life this year. Considering the show won several Emmy’s in its run, his inclusion would have been respectful. Thanks for this list, David.
