Nine has picked up local format rights to This Time Next Year, at MIPCOM.

The 6 x 60 minute series sees ordinary individuals undertake a life-altering transformation, telling viewers what they aim to change about themselves by “this time next year.”

From losing half their body weight, finding love or becoming a parent, the series will be delivered in an “instantaneous time travel” format, breaking away from the traditional makeover format.

“At MIPCOM we have seen a wide range of programming ideas but without a doubt This Time Next Year stands out as something we believe will resonate with Australian audiences,” said Michael Healy, director of television at Nine Network Australia, in a statement.

Real Screen reports it is slated for immediate production.

A UK version will be hosted by Davina McCall for ITV.

    1. Well, the first episode will. Then when it fails to rate in the randomly-generated timeslot it’ll be bumped for something else.

Myself, I’ll be a little surprised if they even show This Time Next Year before this time the year after next…

  1. Called a New Years Resolution. Behaviour psychology shows they rarely ever work, but that committing publicly improves the odds. We shall see what effect being shamed on national TV has on the participants.

      1. I find that the lines of lifestyle, reality and observational can blur.

When I read that that they are following someone around who makes a life change that immediately made me think manufactured. To me anything manufactured leans towards reality.

I have to stop subscribing to threads because I spend too much to time reading other comments when they come through on email and replying. 🙂
