Veteran US actress Patty Duke, whose TV fame came largely from playing lookalikes in the 1963 sitcom The Patty Duke Show, will return to screens in the US this weekend.

In a nod to the past she will play ‘twin grandmothers’ on the Disney Channel series Liv and Maddie. The show, with twin sisters both played by teen actress Dove Cameron, has previously been referenced as having similarities to The Patty Duke Show.

Now Duke will make a guest appearance as Grandma Janice and Great-Aunt Hilary.

You can watch a sneak peek scene here.

Duke, who became a child star through the Broadway play The Miracle Worker, has more recently appeared on shows including Glee, Hawaii Five-0 and The Protector.

  1. The Patty Duke Show was perhaps the first tv show I recall watching with my sister and being in awe of how she played both roles! My reaction to this picture – how she aged in the past few years. I know Patty has had lots of health issues but i barely recognise her.

  2. Yeah I think you are correct, and one of the cousins had a British accent?? (I seem to vaugely remember this, but maybe I am getting confused with The Parent Trap).
