If it’s Tuesday, it must be Doco night…

Ratings: Seven, Nine and TEN all join ABC and SBS in screening Docos on Tuesday. So who came out on top?

There were Documentaries on animals, celebrities, families, and terrorists last night.

Tuesdays have long been the domain of ABC and SBS docos but last night all three commercial networks gave primetime allocation to the genre. Coincidentally, both Nine and SBS screened versions of Who Do You Think You Are?

It follows from recent docos covering everything from cat videos to sugar, diets, fats and even the KKK on commercial networks.

Seven’s Oddest Animals Couples was the most successful of those last night at 656,000. TEN’s British buy-in My Son the Jihadi was just 290,000, probably unable to gain much attention without previous docos in the slot. ABC’s Making Families Happy ended with 312,000.

Seven network won with 30.4% then Nine 30.3%, TEN 18.1%, ABC 15.0% and SBS 6.1%.

Nine News was 1.07m / 986,000 for Nine followed by The Block (985,000), A Current Affair (886,000), Big Bang (1.02m / 789,000) and Who Do You Think You Are? (493,000).

On TEN The Project was 559,000 / 408,000, TBL Families (555,000), TEN Eyewitness News (516,000), NCIS (353,000) and My Son the Jihadi (290,000).

ABC News (822,000) led for ABC followed by 7:30 (682,000), Catalyst (566,000), Making Families Happy (312,000), Antiques Roadshow (295,000), and Kevin McCloud’s Man Made Home (241,000).

On SBS it was Insight (307,000), Who Do You Think You Are? (236,000), Dateline (201,000) and SBS World News (113,000).

7TWO’s Foyle’s War topped multichannels at 262,000.

  1. Wow, those ratings for Studio 10 are woeful.. The Morning Show has almost 400% more viewers and Mornings has almost 300% more viewers. It is pretty clear Ten has all those hosts on contracts and can not afford to pay them out so they just keep having them turn up.

  2. I started watching the ‘odd animal human friendships’ show on Seven (I’ve just finished doing HSC marking so my brain is not up for anything taxing – it’s not my usual style I promise!!). Here was me, seeing the ad, thinking it was going to be all cutesy and lovely. I love snow leopards, so I was watching the snow leopard story with interest. Until it started hunting… I felt like Phoebe on Friends when she sees the real ending of Old Yeller for the first time “The End!! The End!! What kind of sick snuff film is this?” Changed it quite quickly!! Bit more of a left turn than I was expecting from the ads!!

Recorded My Son the Jihadi for a later, less brain fogged day. Watched X Factor – why do they insist on filling the results show with so many waste of time performances? Could be over with in half the time for sure!

  3. Minor typo / correction – in the text I believe figure for Tuesday’s Nine News should be 1.087m (and not 1.87m). It’s a great site David, I check in most days and invariably find several interesting stories. Thanks for all your work.
