Rumour: Tim McMillan for Today?

The rumour mill has been working overtime in the west with the West Australian speculating Karl Stefanovic could move to A Current Affair, with current Nine News Perth anchor Tim McMillan to join Lisa Wilkinson on the Today Show couch.

It’s not clear what such a move would mean for Tracy Grimshaw, should it ever come to pass, nor who would replace McMillan in Perth.

Chatter about Stefanovic’s moves is frequent in the media, but with David Gyngell now out as Nine CEO it could signal changes elsewhere, given his is known to have worked closely with key talent.

Nine’s recent Upfronts release indicated Stefanovic would return to Today and The Verdict while Tracy Grimshaw would be back as ACA host.

Amid reports Stefanovic was negotiating his contract, Nine’s Managing Director of Programming and Production Andrew Backwell recently told TV Tonight,  “Karl is in the final stages of negotiations. So my understanding is he will be with Nine next year. We’ve committed to next year with The Verdict.

“I’m not going to bullshit. The ratings haven’t been fantastic but every episode that has been on air has improved (in content).

“We think the show is all about tone and I think we’re very close.”
