What are the most popular TV shows and channel brands with Facebook users?

They may not top the ratings or win awards, but no other Australian TV stars come close to the Facebook popularity of B1 & B2.

With 2.63m fans around the world Banana in Pyjamas was the most followed show across 2015 on the social media platform.

Next were MasterChef Aaustralia (1.46m), Home and Away (1.43m), Today (1.24m) and Nine News  (1.2m).

In 2015 Today grew more than any other TV show by 84%, followed by The Project (81%), Seven News (74%) and 60 Minutes (50%). Music act 5 Seconds of Summer is the nation’s most followed brand with 10.32m fans. Bananas in Pyjamas is at #5 overall.

Breakfast TV shows also top the TV list when it comes to audience engagement, led by Today then Sunrise, Nine News, Seven News and The Project.

When it comes to channel brands, Foxtel leads the pack at 923k, followed by Channel [V] (862k), FOX Sports (676k), Channel Nine (632k) and MTV (539k).

Proving the power of the medium, TV engages its fans better than any other industry represented on Facebook except one.

“Newspapers and Magazines take the prize for the highest levels of engagement, followed closed by TV Shows”, said Lucio Ribeiro, Online Circle Digital head of Strategy.
