Period drama Wolf Hall leads the 2016 British Academy Television Awards.

Wolf Hall, which screened in Australian on BBC First, has received four nominations, including for its star Mark Rylance. It will compete with The Last Panthers (beginning tonight on SBS), No Offence, and Humans for the Drama Series award.

Downton Abbey, which has never won a BAFTA aside from a special award last year, missed out once again. Poldark also missed out aside from a nod in the audience award.

The BAFTA TV awards will take place at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 8 May.

  1. As far as ‘Last Panthers’ goes, I’ve never seen Marseilles shot so washed out and grey-it’s a pretty miserable looking show all round.

  2. In 6 seasons of DA, only the first season got nominated for Best Drama and it only got 2 other nominations one for supporting actress and actor. Drama does not seem to include popular melodrama. So it’s no surprise Poldark didn’t’ get any nominations, it was exceptionally mediocre.

I wasn’t aware that the French were still making Spiral. I guess like Les Revenants they only a series every couple of years. I enjoyed the first 3 but don’t think they ever showed the 4th.
