Report: Australian Survivor set for Samoa

Australian Survivor will film in the South Pacific where 4 US seasons have shot.

Australian Survivor will film in Samoa according to media reports.

Samoa was the site of the US Survivor seasons Samoa (2009), Heroes & Villains (2009), South Pacific (2011) and One World (2012), with the show has filming consecutive seasons at single locations. An earthquake and tsunami also struck the island in 2009 after filming had concluded, but destroying the resort where crew had been based.

Previous rumour suggested it would be based on the Malaysian island of Pulau Tiga, where the first US season was filmed in 2000.

“It’s really important that the location is both exotic and confronting for an Australian audience,” TEN’s Head of Factual and Entertainment Stephen Tate recently told TV Tonight.

“We took I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here in Africa when we could have made it in the English site here in Australia. We just felt Australian celebrities wouldn’t be afraid of the bush. It’s the same with Survivor, we really need to take people out of their comfort zone.”

TEN has been inundated with applications with over 15,000 submissions, but is yet to announce a host.

  1. Cant wait either….all i ask is for the show to be on once per week for 1hr, just like the US Version, make it short and sharp otherwise people will lose interest. The first ep can be an exception for 90 mins to build up the characters etc….

    1. I feel like that your wish isn’t happening. Sorry

Not only are Australian shows tend to air in a stripped format but from my understanding is that the US’s 42 minute episodes tend to be more the exception to what most editions of the show (other editions have longer single episodes a week or adopt a stripped airing format).

I have seen it doen well with an extended airing format. I watched a season of South African Survivor. 90 minute eps and 18 eps in total (with the premarie and merge episodes being 2 parts without a tribal in the first part) and it was a really enjoyable season.

      1. I know, but I can only dream, MKR turned me off with 4 to five nights a week, the block turned me off and even IACGMOOH got boring after watching it so many times in a week. If they do this with Survivor I’ll tune out. A 60 min episode a week is all they need otherwise they will kill the brand, none of this 75 min/80 min episode rubbish, it just drags it out. Even with Big Brother doing the same, the show just gets boring day in and day out

    2. I have a feeling it is going to be 3 nights a week (Sun, Mon & Tue). It is airing at the same time as The Bachelor/Bachelorette, which are both 2 episode a week shows (Wed & Thu).

    3. I agree, this show has lasted as long as it has in the US due in part to the format. Stripping the show would be overkill and the intensity would be lost in my opinion. I hope it’s just one night a week. Make it a 90 minute episode if need be, but no more, it would just be too drawn out.

  2. They should make an Aussie version of 71 Degrees North – basically an Arctic Survivor. That really would take contestants out of their comfort zone!
