It’s not just murder that makes its way into the 18th Season of Midsomer Murders, but diversity too.

British Indian actress Manjinder Virk will feature as Forensic Pathologist Kam Karimore in the new 6 part series.

Her casting follows recent criticism that the UK drama was “too white” and did not represent a modern UK.

This season premiered in the UK in January.

Body snatching, UFO spotting, and an international cycle race are just some of the weird and wonderful worlds that DCI John Barnaby and DS Charlie Nelson are immersed in for the 18th series of Midsomer Murders.

In episode one, Dr Isaac Vernon confirms the death of wealthy landowner Gregory Lancaster, as Gregory’s son, Antarctic expedition leader Felix, arrives too late to see his father. When body goes missing on the night of his death, a sinister web of secrets and lies is exposed in the village of Little Malton.

DCI Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon), DS Nelson (Gwily Lee), and new Forensic Pathologist Kam Karimore (Manjinder Virk) are drawn into a macabre world of body-snatching as they seek to identify the villain.

8:40pm Sunday April 24 on ABC.

  1. They started giving minority characters speaking parts after 2011 (when Brian Truth May was fired, reinstated and then moved on for asserting MM was about traditional English village murders and that suited its viewers). Clumsily at first but they have improved. This is the first regular character who isn’t white.

  2. Absolutely love Midsomer Murders, sadly it is one of those many series’ where the credits have to be intact with no voice over and as Aunty can’t seem to resist the ‘what’s on next’ syndrome we have been buying the DVD for the last dozen years, it is on order as we speak. Release date is shortly after Aunty finishes MSM1806 Midsomer Murders – Harvest of Souls, gets processed and put in our library
