Maggie Beare would doubtless be turning in her grave (with her oranges) at the news the house featured in ABC sitcom Mother and Son has been demolished.
The house situated at 16 Rickard Street, Rodd Point in Sydney’s inner west was used for exteriors for the comedy, which aired across six seasons from 1984 to 1994. Interiors were filmed at ABC Studios at Gore Hill.
Built by John Cockerill in 1927, the property was sold in 2014 for $1.95 million, after being passed in at a 2012 auction. The agent told Fairfax most of the prospective buyers were young, more interested in the location than any sitcom nostalgia.
The construction of a dual-occupancy dwelling is now underway.
It’s not clear if Arthur has bothered to tell his brother, Robert.

🙁 Such a lovely show
I saw the stage production with Noeline Brown as Maggie last year – it was fantastic
Shame to see a nice old house get demolished, and they’ve ripped up Maggie’s rose bushes too.
If you click on the you will see there’s nothing left.
