Wentworth returned last night, topping the night in Pay TV titles.

It drew 160,000 viewers, well up on the 2015 premiere of 100,000.

While it may not be as phenomenal as Game of Thrones it is on par with local profile titles such as Gogglebox, Selling Houses Australia and The Real Housewives of Melbourne.

The show, which won a Logie for Celia Ireland on Sunday, was also trending on Twitter last night as rabid fans were breathless for word on former Governor Joan Ferguson (Pamela Rabe) and assorted inmates.

Foxtel Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh said, “Wentworth was very deservedly the most watched program on subscription television last night. The overnight audience was up 33 per cent on last season’s premiere, proving yet again Foxtel subscribers’ appetite and demand for premium Australian drama.

“Congratulations to the incredible Wentworth cast and the production team led by FremantleMedia Australia’s Jo Porter and Foxtel’s Head of Drama Penny Win.”

  1. So darn frustrated. Been counting down the days to this but I’m gonna have to wait until late Thursday night to watch it. Suppose the upside will be just a five day way to the next episode…

  2. It’s certainly a much more compelling show then Game Of Toilets , If you want a definition of drama , other shows should take note of Wentworth , there’s no better thrill on T.V at the moment .
