SBS Australia has taken a package of scripted programming from European producer and distributor StudioCanal.
They include SKY1 drama The Five and the Canal+ shows Section Zéro and Baron Noir.
“Gritty crime thrillers like The Five, political dramas like Baron Noir and dark sci-fi series like Section Zéro bring something fresh and exciting to our World Drama slate,” Marshall Heald, SBS Director of TV and online content told C21.
The Five (pictured) stars Tom Cullen, O. T. Fagbenle, Lee Ingleby and Sarah Solemani as childhood friends Mark, Danny, Slade and Pru, who are re-united after DNA evidence left at a murder scene is revealed to be that of Mark’s brother Jesse, who disappeared one summer’s day after playing in the park with the four friend.
Section Zero is described as a dark, edgy and violent political, sci-fi thriller from César-nominated writer and director, Olivier Marchal. Set in the near future, multi-national corporations are Europe’s new leaders. One of the most powerful, Prométhée, wishes to further secure their growing dominance by replacing the police force with their own private militias, the Black Squad, led by Henry Munro (Pascal Greggory).
Baron Noir, also known as Republican Gangsters, is a political and judicial saga of Philippe Rickwaert, deputy mayor of the North, driven by an irrepressible thirst for social revenge. In-between rounds of the presidential election, he sees his future collapse when his mentor, leftist candidate, sacrificed to save his campaign.

Are these going to get a traditional run on SBS 1 or 2? If not, why not? Surely all are good enough.
Well it’s cold and rainy here today, so I’m going to curl up and binge-watch “Trapped” on SBS on my iPad.
Yes, that’s another on my list to check out after a couple of others.
So Sex Box is deemed suitable for broadcast but there’s isn’t room in the schedule for any of these? Section Zéro looks particularly interesting.
Yes it appears that way!
