Amongst the annual Emmy nominations there are always those who miss out.

Game of Thrones. People v. O.J. Simpson, Fargo and Veep were amongst the big winners (and great to see Grease Live recognised).

This year these were rather prominent omissions:

Julianna Margulies on The Good Wife
Christian Slater on Mr. Robot
Uzo Aduba in Orange Is the New Black
Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory
Eric Stonestreet for Modern Family
Jane Krakowski in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Rachel Bloom in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Caitriona Balfe in Outlander

These were also amongst those with few or zero nods: Outlander, Empire, The Affair, Mozart in the Jungle, Billions, The Daily Show, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Show Me a Hero, BoJack Horseman, Survivor, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, The Leftovers, Jessica Jones, Black Sails.

  1. While Catriona Balfe is outstanding, it is Sam Heughan who should be winning an Emmy. The whole nomination thing seems a bit like the Logies – once a show becomes a darling of the awards, eg Home and Away, they always get nominated over better shows/actors regardless.

  2. what about Law and Order SVU, the acting and writing in that show are brilliant. Mariska Hargitay should’ve been nominated as should some of her co-stars and I thought Whoopi Goldberg was brilliant in the episode she appeared and she should’ve been up for Guest Actress in a Drama.
no emmy noms for Jeff Probst, OITNB and Empire(one of the best dramas on tv right now)

  3. sorry carrie coon aint the best actress on tv that would be tatiana maslany. Who is the best right now they only play one part she plays many and looks kick butt doing all of them

    1. Yep Tatiana is wonderful, for a similar reason that is why I am baffled Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore didn’t get a nod, as they both played 3 different versions of their character in season 4.

  4. For “The Good Wife” to receive one solitary acting nod (Michael J. Fox – Best Guest Actor) is ridiculous. The Academy seems to have fallen out of love with Julianna Margulies in recent years (even though she continues to be outstanding), but Christine Baranski absolutely deserved a nomination, as did Alan Cumming. I also thought Margo Martindale was a good best for a Guest Actor nod (she was excellent).

    1. Not entirely true. The actress who plays Elsbeth is up for best supporting actress. The shows definitely deserved more nods for its final season, but I was glad to see her work recognised because it’s been consistently outstanding.

  5. Carrie Coon is the best actress on TV at the moment and she never gets the recognition she deserves. I think that’s because The Leftovers only has small audience.

  6. I love Modern Family, but to be fair, it really showed its age and limped through that most recent (7th) season. I’m surprised it scored any noms at all.

  7. Well I’ve already put my thoughts on this in the original nominations post… Some of the noms are baffling… And I thank the television Gods that Downton Abbey has finished and won’t intrude on these next year… Taking up valuable space every year that show…

  8. Also with few nods was Bates Motel, got nominated for Outstanding Cinematography for a Single Camera Series and Outstanding Music Composition for a Series. Nothing for Vera Farmiga or Freddie Highmore who both knocked it out of the park through season 4, makes me wonder if A&E actually put them forward or not.
