Updated: Criminal Minds star Thomas Gibson has been fired from the show following a incident during production.

“Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date,” producers ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios said in a statement.

“I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years,” Gibson said in a statement. “I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.”

Earlier:
Gibson was directing an episode when he had a dispute with the writer. Tempers on both sides flared with Gibson said to have kicked the writer.

He has been written out of two episodes, replaced as director and will not step behind the camera again this season.

The matter is under investigation by human resources.

“There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement,” Gibson said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter.

“I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and we always will.”

This is the second incident for Gibson with the series; he pushed another producer a few years ago and had to attend anger management classes, though he was not suspended.

  1. My bestie loves this show….she has all the DVDs….She just said …flat out…will not watch it anymore….
What ever he did…I suspect this will be fan reaction….

  2. So bizarre to have a toddler tantrum like that! How embarrassing that story getting out. He had to be sacked if his go to move for conflict is violence. His character was always on the edge, it won’t be a stretch for them to say Hotch had a breakdown and had to leave the BAU or something along those lines. I always thought it was weird he kept on in such a busy job after Hailey was murdered and he had a child to look after. At least we’ll be spared any more of his romance or Jack scenes, they were so cheesy.

  3. Seriously fired for kicking someone in the shins. Wow what a bad hotch. Cmon. Now if he punched him or seriously hurt him then maybe. But being fired for acting like a two year old in a supermarket is a bit rich. Whats next being fired for giving a chinese burn or flicking someones ear or a julie bishop death stare. The punishment should fit crime.

    1. If you did that in an office you’d most likely be fired, he shouldn’t get a free pass just because he’s an actor, particularly since he’s done similar before.

  4. For Pete’s sake – not another long, drawn-out storyline promising the demise of Hotch in every episode like we’re currently going through with Morgan!!!

  5. I’m personally glad he was fired. As popular as his character may have been, there is no excuse for violence and the studio had to take action, otherwise, the writer would have been within his rights to file a lawsuit. The actor clearly has issues that he needs to sort out. In any work environment, this kind of violence would be an instant dismissal.

  6. There are a lot of bizarre comments on articles about Gibson’s firing on TVLine and TVGuide, saying that the producer is the one who should have been fired and justifying that violence in the workplace is somehow acceptable in this instance because the guy has been on the show for 12 years.

Kicking someone in the shin in the workplace is an idiotic move, no matter how angry Gibson may have been in their dispute. The people supporting him are probably the same mob supporting the knob from Top Gear that assaulted a producer and got fired.

  7. I’ll watch a couple of episodes to see what happens with Hotch but after that I’m basically done I’ll probably watch the odd episode but I won’t be able to make it through the season like when JJ was gone. I think firing him was a bad decision that is punishing the loyal fans that have been watching for 11 years more than punishing him. I wouldn’t be surprised if season 12 is the last season the show is really old and Hotch is too important and has too big of a fanbase to lose this late.

  8. He is a central character in the show and producers know if he leaves it would see the end of it. It would like NCIS without Gibbs (Mark Harmon).
