In the run-up to a big weekend in sport, Nine’s decision to move its Footy Show finales to 7:30pm proved to be a big winner.

Both AFL & NRL shows combined drew 932,000 viewers -easily their best figure all year- with 452,000 watching in Melbourne, streets ahead of Sydney’s 194,000. That was well in front of Home and Away, 7:30 and The Bachelorette.

TEN’s dating show is yet to resonate in the same league as its predecessor in Total People but is still scoring in Demos. Gogglebox had another Thursday where it was TEN’s best performer, at 670,000 viewers.

Adelaide schedules were still adjusting to Wednesday’s storm with replays of Wrong Girl, The Block and even an extended ABC News.

Nine network won Thursday with 30.3% then Seven 26.6%, TEN 20.4%, ABC 16.7% and SBS 6.0%.

Nine News (1.01m / 994,000) was best for Nine then The Footy Show (923,000), A Current Affair (825,000) Hot Seat (526,000) and Survivor (352,000 in 4 cities).

Seven News was #1 with 1.07m / 1.02m for Seven then Home and Away (696,000), The Chase (606,000 / 422,000), Make You LOL (453,000). Selling Houses Australia was 314,000.

Gogglebox (670,000), The Project (622,000 / 415,000), The Bachelorette (599,000), TEN Eyewitness News (498,000) and Law and Order: SVU (308,000 in 4 cities) comprised TEN’s night.

    1. Yes I agree. News update would be good. They could discuss some of the news topics. More people might actually tune it at 8.30. The first half hours is quite week. Unfortunately it is a reflection of tens commitment to news. I don’t think the newsroom opens until about 3pm?

  1. Watch none of the footy show afl accept for the player revue. Sadly the player revue is going downhill every year. It used to be so good. Rebecca did well with her part though.

  2. Gogglebox was the worst of the series last night. The shows they watched last night eg. The block and bachelorette are on nearly every week. I wish they would have more variety in the shows they watch

    1. I’m finding it repetitive. They seem to do the block or batchelor/batchelorette every week. They’ve even done anh do’s abc show twice. They don’t seem to do drama more than once. I’d like to see more variety. Maybe gogglebox is just a reflection of free to air these days where there isn’t much on to begin with. I’m not enjoying currently as much as I have in the past.

    2. The thing is though if you’re watching the Block and the Bachor/ette then you are watching more than one episode and I’m thinking (as boring as it is getting) it’s reflective on normal viewing of people who watch these shows.

I agree though – not enough variety at all and I often think when they review some obscure Lifestyle channel show if it is a show any of them would chose to watch or if it is Foxtel taking the opportunity to promote?

I noticed for the first time when they did Thelma & Louise that the water mark was “Foxtel Movies” – usually the Gogglebox movies being reviewed have no watermark.

    1. After the storms they replayed Block, so Footy Show moved. I have learned that Adelaide will have 2 eps for the next 2 weeks bringing it in line with the rest (and US) in a fortnight. It also starts 9:40 next week.

      1. Yet they were telling us in Adelaide it would still be on last night. Channel 9 have no idea what they are even showing and at what time. The social media people should be fired.

    1. Unfortunately if you record anything after a Footy show you have to record the next 2 or 3 shows after it to make sure you get the show you want as they always run late despite being ridiculously long lengths as they are… Absolutely unfair to viewers and fans of any show that follows…

  3. Re The Bachelorette not resonating, Georgia seems a lovely lady but being a news reporter means she seems a bit TVish when the camera is on her. Not as natural as past Bachelorette’s have been.

    1. Yeah I feel the same way. She seems nice enough, but too polished. I prefer the awkwardness of someone who is not used to being on TV. I’m also finding the guys a little too similar to each other and in some cases lacking personality.
