Exclusive: Melbourne reporter and presenter Nick Etchells has departed Seven News.

He departed two weeks ago after nearly five years with the network.

During his time at Seven News Etchells has been both senior reporter and presenter, anchoring weekend, daytime and summer bulletins and widely regarded as being groomed as a potential permanent anchor.

During his term at Seven he anchored coverage of the Lindt crisis from the Melbourne newsroom, while the Sydney newsroom was evacuated.

He has also been a reporter for Nine News and TEN News, an LA correspondent and Sunrise correspondent and presented during the Good Friday Appeal.

A Seven source confirmed his departure for personal reasons.

  1. Wonder what network he will pop up next, possible 9, don’t know why its the newsreaders/sports readers that keep disappearing from our screens and move to other channels, yet TV hosts stay with the same channel for years.

  2. Interesting, and significant for Seven News Melbourne as – since the departure of Rebecca Maddern to Nine and The Footy Show, it certainly seemed that Nick Etchells was becoming the ‘number three’ newsreader. He certainly took the 6pm shifts when the ‘main two’ were on leave or away.
