A whopping 486,000 viewers tuned in to FOX Sports to see Melbourne Storm claim the Minor Premiership, making it the highest rating NRL match on FOX Sports of all time.
It smashed the previous record of 408,000 in 2011 and moves into the Top 10 highest rating events ever on subscription TV.
The match has also become the most watched event on subscription television for 2016.
An earlier 5.30pm match, which saw the Cowboys win 32-16 over the Titans also averaged 349,000 viewers, giving FOX Sports 501 its highest Saturday channel share since 2005.
Yesterday FOX Sports CEO, Patrick Delany, said: “This is an incredible result for FOX Sports and the perfect way to end one of the closest NRL finals races in history.
“We promised Foxtel subscribers the best coverage ever this year – every game live, no ad breaks during play and in high definition – and we’ll continue to serve up more of the same with every Finals game in September live for the first time.”
“And with our dedicated NRL Finals channel launching tomorrow, providing a taste of what our viewers have to look forward to in 2017 with their own NRL channel, there has never been a better time to be a Rugby League fan.”

I think you have a typo, David.
It should read “there has never been a better time to be a Foxtel fan”
🙂
If you inserted this result into the FTA table on Saturday, it would have finished 7th overall, which is quite amazing for a Pay TV event.
Fox Sports coverage of NRL this year has been first rate. Goes to prove that the Grand Final should not be in the anti siphoning list on both codes.
Nothing to do with antisiphoning list. It is a commercial decision. Fox could simulcast both games for the right $$$$.
