Rose D’Or Awards 2016: winners

John Cleese honoured with a lifetime achievement award at prestigious European broadcasting awards.

UK shows have dominated at the 55th Rose d’Or Awards in Berlin.

BBC’s River which won Best TV Drama while the Swedish-produced Eurovision Song Contest won the Entertainment category.

Comedy legend John Cleese was honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry.

In his acceptance speech Cleese made a plea for executives to trust performers and writers.

”When Monty Python was commissioned we didn’t really know what we were going to do but we were trusted. The talent has a better record than the suits so why don’t they bear that in mind?” he said.

“The trouble with executives isn’t that they have no idea what they are doing but that they have no idea that they have no idea.”
