“Where’s the gay couple?”

Viewers left confused after gay couple are not welcome at Nine's dinner party.

Married at First Sight viewers were left confused last night after the show overlooked one of its four couples for a group dinner party.

Same-sex couple Andy and Scott were nowhere to be seen when Bella & Michael, Nicole & Keller, Monica & Mark joined Jess & Dave at the dinner table.

Yesterday a Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight, “Andy & Craig didn’t attend the dinner party as they ended the experiment with their catch up which went to air last night.”

But that doesn’t quite fit with the what narrator Georgie Gardner told viewers about couples proceeding from honeymoons to moving-in together: “Two couples didn’t make it that far.”

Nor does it fit with this official tweet in which split couples would still have to endure a tension-filled group dinner.

On social media confused viewers were asking Nine to please explain.

But one tweet may have hit the nail on the head.

If Andy & Scott’s ‘wedding’ actually took place in New Zealand after the other 4 couples had completed filming it would logically rule them out of attending the group dinner party.

In the Reality genre it’s always important for shows to be as transparent as possible.

MAFS, which is already dismissive of the fact its weddings are not actually legal, doesn’t have a perfect record in constructing its narrative.

This tweet last night was ironically poetic.

Updated: Nine advises Andy & Craig were wed before the dinner party and met up in Sydney after their honeymoon.

  1. So two couples ‘didn’t make it that far’ but only the heterosexual couple were invited to dinner?

Who’s producing this putrid show? Tony Abbort or Corey Bernadi?

    1. Yes. It’s always been a mix of carcrash TV moments and true love -2 couples still together from previous seasons (incl a baby on the way). The genre always involves a degree of manipulation and editing that leaves some unhappy.

  2. It does appear the same sex couple were added in as an afterthought, perhaps to capitalize on a topical subject and the publicity their inclusion would bring. David and Jess turned up to the dinner party even though their “marriage” had ended. And even Jess mentioned in the episode that her and David were the only couple whose marriage had failed… Or words to that effect. Leads me to believe they weren’t even aware of Craig and Andy’s participation in the show. Shonky narrative.

  3. Why would anyone watch a show when they are not legally married, another show where it’s just about people going on reality show just hoping to get a media career..sick of these shows.
