Next week SBS premieres 4 part ITV drama Tutankhamun, which was released in the UK last week.
The series stars Sam Neill and Max Irons (The White Queen, Woman in Gold) dramatising the discovery of Tutankhamun‘s tomb.
Not to be confused with King Tut on SBS on Demand.
Spread over two decades and set against the great sweep of ochre sands, looming cliffs and baking heat of Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, the story unfolds with Howard Carter (Irons) fervently leading an expedition, determined to find lost antiquities.
Despite his past failures and doubts from his peers, Carter forms an unlikely alliance with British aristocrat and eccentric risk-taker Lord Carnarvon (Neill), a friendship that brings Carter a change of fortune – including a secret romance with Carnarvon’s beautiful daughter, Evelyn.
After years of searching for Tutankhamun’s tomb amongst corrupt officials and rival digs and against the sweeping backdrop of world war, conflict, murder and revolution, Carter and Carnarvon successfully discover the last resting place of the boy-king in 1921 – against all odds, and at a great personal expense.
Wednesday, 2 November at 8.30pm on SBS.

A coincidence that there’s a Tut exhibition touring Australia at the moment?-currently here in Perth…
Social media reviews from the UK haven’t been kind to this title.
ITV is certainly getting it’s worth out of the Carnarvon family, first filming Downton Abbey at Highclere Castle and now a show featuring 5th Earl.
