New action drama Lethal Weapon has won a full season in the US.

The small screen version stars Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, in the roles originally created on the big screen by Danny Glover and Mel Gibson respectively.

FOX has extended the series to 18 episodes, its first full series of the new Fall season. It is now averaging 11.5m total viewers in Live+7 viewing.

Lethal Weapon delivers an explosive and wildly entertaining core relationship between two cops, with dynamic performances by Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, surrounded by cinematic action, endearing humor and true heart,” said FOX entertainment president David Madden. “Matt Miller, McG, Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz have done a tremendous job on this show, which has proven to be a self-starter and solid companion for Empire. We are thrilled to add these episodes to Lethal Weapon’s first season.”

  1. Given how the vast majority of Fox’s line-up (even new shows) barely manage to pull above 1.0 in the demos, they’d be over the moon at LW’s high 1s. Even if its numbers dissolve in spring I can’t see a situation where this isn’t renewed.

  2. I’m not surprised, Lethal Weapon fits the most commonly used and easily scripted format for a show designed for the U.S. commercial market, audiences outside the USA should feel grateful that U.S. production companies like HBO continue to produce original concept shows.
