The MacGyver reboot starring Lucas Till has been granted a full season of 22 episodes by CBS.

The series is averaging 11.35 million US viewers. Despite mostly bad reviews it has been winning its Friday night timeslot.

CBS also gave out the good news to two other shows: comedy Kevin Can Wait featuring Kevin James and drama Bull, starring Michael Weatherly in a show based on the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw when he worked as a jury consultant.

All three series received orders for an additional nine episodes, bringing their season totals to 22 each.

“We’re thrilled viewers have embraced these three shows creatively,” said CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller. “Each one has made an immediate and positive impact on our schedule, while significantly contributing to growing their respective nights.”

They join previously-announced full seasons for This Is Us, Designated Survivor, Speechless and Lethal Weapon.

MacGyver is currently screening on TEN on Saturday nights.

  1. Meh, I wasn’t expecting anywhere near Emmy winning perfection, nor was I expecting anything that remotely resembled a decent, hard hitting reboot. What I did get was a shockingly brain dead rehash of every single action-drama type show produced in the US wrapped up in a famous name. And for that very reason… I’m watching it. How’s that for a backhanded compliment…? I just don’t understand why I’m enjoying it…

    1. I’m right there with you, I was thinking the main draw card for me was CSI’s Nick Stokes, happy surprise that was. But what really bugs me is the “paperclip”, “light bulb”, just in case I had never seen a paperclip or light bulb before.

  2. What!? This show is terrible. The writers/produces/network/whatever completely failed to understand what made the original at least bearable and occasionally interesting to watch.

  3. It could be interesting for The Amazing Race, which was delayed from its timeslot for Macgyver. It might place the future of TAR in doubt if there isn’t somewhere else in the CBS schedule for it, or at the very least cut it back to one season per year as opposed to two a year.

    1. I am hearing that TAR29 (the next season) could be a midseason show (January/Febuary) or a summer show (June/uly)

Meanwhile, I am getting my TAR fix by watching Amazing Race Asia online. It is not the best version of TAR out there but it is somthing.
