We now cross Live to our reporter standing 20 metres behind us

Just when you thought you'd seen it all in Live TV crosses...

Just when you thought you’d seen it all, Nine News Brisbane outside the Supreme Court case on the Gable Tostee murder trial crosses Live to their reporter, Michael Best -who is standing in the distance.

You can see a cameraman and Best preparing for the cross, in the background.

  1. Just on News. Channel 9 up here in Brisbane has recently introduced big sound to introduce breaking stories, first on nine etc, which is used 4 or 5 times a night during the bulletin. It sounds and feels like I am getting a 1-2-3 combination punch from Mike Tyson, so loud and invasive is the effect. I now watch Channel 7 News.

  2. 7 Sydney cut off The Chase mid-point for 30 mins (so far) of waffle, three people rehashing and rehashing, then when they ran out the chic in the beige cost thought she would start everything all over again, from the beginning. What’s their obsession with this case? It’s not the first murder trial FFS. Who is the accused anyway? Is he someone of some name in Qld that the rest of us have never heard of? Is this the new afternoon time filler – Court TV?

  3. I can’t speak for other cities, but commercial TV news in Brisbane is hyper localised to the point where its ridiculous. the second or third story on seven the other night was about a stolen debit card which was used four times in an hour for transactions totally $360! Crime of the century right there!!!

    1. Local news is why most people watch the commercial news bulletins. If you want national and political news, watch the ABC, if you want international news watch SBS (or BBC world or ABC News 24 or Aljazeera).

    2. All news coverage is localised to a certain point. Even big old Shelbyville has its fair share of local stories that will make the inner city hipster cringe. My favourite local news stories have been watching Tasmania news coverage.

  4. TCN 9 cross across the Today Extra and Today show floor. Most times they cross from studio 22 or 21 to the newsroom which is a 2 minute walk upstairs. Breaking.

  5. Oh the constant ‘see it first here’ on both 9 and 7 is beyond ridiculous. Channel 9 even airing the audio of the poor woman screaming. It’s shameful. Social media will most probably beat both of them anyway!

  6. The ABC here also occasionally does live crosses to their reporter standing … outside, on the balcony of the ABC building.

    Maybe it’s a Brisbane thing? 😉

  7. Both Nine and Seven abandoned the Presidential Debate for “breaking news”, and after nearly thirty minutes of waffling, announced that the court had been adjourned until 2.30pm. Why couldn’t they just cross to the court precinct once they knew for sure that a verdict was about to be announced. Does being “first” really matter ? Whichever channel you are watching is where you will see it first.

    1. No doubt ABC24 would have had it, or will have it “first” by way of a pretyped “guilty/not guilty” yellow news bar. So Nine had at least 4 reporters (as they mentioned one still inside) and 2 remote crews. Someone’s News budget can afford a haircut.

    2. I would have thought multi channels took care of that kind of conflict these days. Throw the US debate to 7 Two if you think your local audience is more interested in the outcome of a trial (Brisbane, or at least its newsrooms, does love a high profile trial.
