ABC TV Melbourne offices in Elsternwick are now on the market ahead of staff relocating to the redeveloped Southbank site on Sturt Street.

The 6,155 square metre site on Selwyn Street is a 3 minute walk from ABC’s Ripponlea Studios in Gordon Street, which will also be decommissioned next year.

The Selwyn Street building is “mixed use” and largely comprises office space, storage and car park. It is home to the Melbourne publicity team and production teams for shows such as Mad as Hell, The Weekly, Hard Quiz, or previously rented by Foxtel for Open Slather.

Small areas have been fashioned into makeshift shooting spaces for Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Newton’s Law, although strictly speaking it isn’t built as studio space.

Savills Australia is seeking expressions of interest until December 6th.

ABC Director of Television Richard Finlayson recently told TV Tonight, the Elsternwick properties “will ultimately be sold with the money going to Australian content.”

  1. Was glad I was about to get a studio tour in there earlier this year when I went to see the Weekly then.

It was also the core studio for (then) ABC 3. When you walked into the waiting area/lobby, behind the receptionist was a giant ABC 3 logo. As you walk down the hallway there was glass walls with ABC 3’s logo etched into them and of course the studio for Studio 3 along with all the prop rooms, editing bay ect. However I don’t think they filmed News on 3 there, I believe that might be in Sydney although I could be wrong.
