Forget smart houses and driverless cars, I’d be happy if I could get broadband in Brisbane.
I love the intro and theme music to Beyond 2000! Has excellent guitar rif and the production was awesome could be sampled for a dance track that’s how good it still is!
An episode of Beyond 2000 I remember from 1983 on ABC covered this new idea called “cell” or “mobile” phones. Included a graphic showing how as the phone moves from cell to cell it connects to the nearest cell and then connects to normal phones or onto other cells (as in mobile-mobile call) via the normal land lines.
I’m still waiting for my personal jetpack, sonic washing machine, and hubless motorcycle.
No hoverboard?
Hah, I almost said but no hoverboard. Just the things that were featured on the program and which were supposed to be hitting the market soon.
Broadcast from 1999 in Standard Definition in Sydney. The irony.
Sounds intriguing
To flashback further, there was also Towards 2000 – I think this was an ABC series before the format got shifted across to 7. Great theme music too (the name of the composer/company who did this escapes me at the moment though).
ABC as ‘Towards 2000’ and ‘Beyond 2000’, then 7, then 10 IIRC. And then back to 7 as ‘Beyond Tomorrow’.
The composer was Michael Carlos, who also did the music for ‘Storm Boy’ and ‘Blue Fin’ and arranged / produced / played on some of Jon English’s albums.
There was an older UK programme called ‘Tomorrow’s World’ in the 70s/early 80s.
