Big banned theory scenes ok for Australia

Sorry Britain, what's too hot for you is no problem down under.

An episode of The Big Bang Theory which features a suggestive dream sequence is reportedly too hot for the UK.

But it will have no problem screening in Australia with an M rating on Nine.

The scene sees Sheldon’s room turned into “a sex dungeon” by Leonard and Penny, who were recently married in an episode.

Despite the skimpy costumery, UK press including The Mirror report advertisers have banned the dream sequence from airing.

A Nine source tells TV Tonight that while the jokes are a level above the usual PG gags it will not be problematic with an M classification.

New Big Bang episodes are currently screening with a PG rating but a year ago media watchdog the Australian Communications and Media Authority relaxed classifications to allow M rated content from 7:30pm.

  1. I am glad to see that the changes were for the better of our viewing experiences. While I don’t personally care for Big Bang Theory, I am very glad that them allowing this means that other shows will too be allowed to hopefully go through unedited.

  2. Biggest problem with all this is it kinda spoils the episode plot now we know a key scene and those in the UK will have to wait for the DVD to see it, unless their online version is not edited? Personally I don’t see why all the fuss, but maybe that’s their plan. Given this is the 10th season they need to do something to hold the fans even if the ratings are still high.

  3. Sorry for my lack of understanding, but how can an advertiser instruct a network to remove content from a show? Surely that’s not their jurisdiction?

        1. In 1993 Nine had a series called Sex. Moralist and religious groups wrote to companies advertising in the show saying that they would boycott them. McDonalds and Qantas wrote back saying that they had pulled their advertising and others followed. When Bruce Gyngell became Nine CEO a month or so later he went onto Ray Martin’s Midday Show and announced that he had axed the show to which there was loud applause from the audience.

  4. I knew it wouldn’t be a problem on nine. Those recent celebrity roasts were pretty “blue” in their language, and pretty grose I might add. If they could get away with that TBBT episode is tame in comparison.
